Review and consider termination of contract with Amey
The Issue
As a resident of Moray, the recent management issues concerning the A96 have struck a personal chord with me. This essential transport route is not only a lifeline for local communities but also critical to the economy of northern Scotland. It links families, supports businesses, and facilitates tourism. The people of Moray, and indeed all those who rely on the A96, deserve roads that are safe and well-maintained.
Unfortunately, the performance of Amey in managing this vital infrastructure has been unsatisfactory. Serious concerns have arisen, particularly due to significant issues with two major bridges along the A96 — one in Keith and another in Fochabers. These problems have not only caused disruptions but have also raised questions about safety and reliability.
The A96’s state of maintenance under Amey’s supervision has left many of us feeling frustrated and let down. There have been notable delays in repairs and communication lapses, contributing to an overall decline in confidence among road users. This situation demands immediate attention to ensure that no further incidents occur, endangering public safety or causing unnecessary inconvenience.
We call upon the Scottish Government to urgently conduct a thorough review of its contract with Amey. It is vital that this review is comprehensive, assessing both past performance and future capabilities. If it becomes evident that Amey cannot meet the requirements to provide consistent and competent service, then the government must seriously consider terminating the contract.
Moreover, we need transparent communication about any findings, action plans, and corrective measures. Alternative solutions or contractors should also be explored to better assure road users of consistent and high-quality service.
Your signature on this petition can help us press the Scottish Government to act swiftly and decisively for the safety and well-being of all users of the A96. Please join me in calling for accountability and positive change by adding your name below. Together, we can push for a brighter, safer future for our roads.
