Our wildlife deserves protection! 
Domestic cats are considered one of the most invasive species worldwide, according to a research paper from Australia's National Environment Program. 
In Australia, feral cats eat about 2 billion reptiles, birds, frogs and mammals each year. They have also contributed to most of Australia’s 34 mammal extinctions. 
Cats are highly active at night, hunting and roaming their domain at will. Cats are also vulnerable to predation by foxes and wild dogs as well as at risk of being run over in high traffic density areas. 
There are plenty of humane ways to be a responsible cat owner including purchasing a cat enclosure. An outdoor enclosure will protect your cat from all danger and protect our endangered wildlife populations as well. 
It is requested the Companion Animals Act 1998 No 87 be reviewed and amended to- 
 
- Require cats to be contained to their owner's property 24/7 
- Introduce a fineable offense to allow a cat to wander/roam at large.  
- To permit cats outdoors in an enclosure.  
- To permit cats in a public place if they are effectively controlled by means of a physical restraint (ie. a lead) 
- To give Councils the power to require and enforce cat containment including the power to seize an owned cat that is roaming / wandering at large 
- Introduce procedures for the detention of owned cats, their return or rehoming. 
 
This will help keep cats safer, reduce the impact of nuisance cats on the community, protect wildlife and the environment and help to manage feral cats.
