The law used to permit individuals aged 18 and above to smoke, and it is my belief that this age limit should be reinstated. While it is well-known that nicotine is an addictive chemical, adults at the age of 18 are capable of understanding this risk and making informed choices about their health. It's worth noting that according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 90% of smokers had their first cigarette by age 18. This suggests that raising the legal smoking age may not effectively prevent young people from starting smoking. Instead, it infringes on personal freedoms without necessarily achieving its intended public health benefits. Let us advocate for our rights as adults by signing this petition urging lawmakers to revert the legal smoking age back to 18.
