Revert the Ban of Cell Phones in Utah Schools
Revert the Ban of Cell Phones in Utah Schools
The Issue
I am a student with anxiety and often resort to music as a means to calm down. However, the recent ban of cell phones in schools significantly hampers my ability to cope. This is not a plea made on behalf of just myself but for all students who use phone-based tools for their benefit in education.
In today's digital age, cell phones have evolved beyond being mere communication tools. A study found that 75% of educators believe that technology has a positive impact on education (Source: University of Phoenix College of Education). Cell phones can serve as calculators, research tools, and even platforms for learning management systems, making them invaluable to modern-day learning.
Furthermore, cell phones could be pivotal for students dealing with mental health issues. Music is a known therapeutic tool for managing anxiety (Source: Anxiety and Depression Association of America) and, for many students, the primary access point to such therapy is their phone.
Along with the decision of banning cell phones, kids nowadays are going to get into more trouble. They are going to worry about their families or their best friends. It is a very wild spread decision to make, affecting our generation.
We ask that the decision-makers reconsider the ban on cell phones and discover a balanced policy that respects the potential educational and therapeutic value of these devices while addressing possible distractions. Please sign this petition to support a more inclusive view of technology in our schools.
