Revert Recent Changes to Moylaragh Roundabout

Revert Recent Changes to Moylaragh Roundabout
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call upon Fingal County Council to reverse the recent changes made to Moylaragh Roundabout due to concerns regarding safety and practicality for road users, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The recent alterations to Moylaragh Roundabout have created an environment that is not only impractical but also unsafe for all who utilize it. The changes pose significant risks to road users, including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The current layout increases the likelihood of road traffic incidents due to confusion and congestion caused by the new configuration. The alterations have disrupted the flow of traffic and created hazardous conditions, especially during peak hours.
Furthermore, the safety of pedestrians and cyclists is compromised by the lack of proper infrastructure and clear markings. The increased risk of accidents endangers the lives of vulnerable road users, including children, elderly individuals, and individuals with disabilities.
The lack of actual concern from Fingal County Council for vulnerable road users is evident throughout the construction. There are high curbs with tactile markings of a crossings on Moylaragh Road, any visually impaired person unaware of the dept could have a serious incident here, imagine if you were trying to cross this and all of a sudden you drop to the road. If you are a wheel chair user the pathway beside the graveyard isn’t fully resurfaced, manhole covers are slightly raised and the tarmac ‘paving’ is uneven. There is a concerning lack of signage on how to follow the maze of footpaths which could be very disorienting to anybody simply trying cross a road.
This poses a major risk to those driving as locals including children can often be seen walking in the road because there has been no clear access to the path.
Fingal County Council mentioned in their plans that this roundabout would be an aide to vulnerable road users. Here are some quotes from their website regarding the works:
-
safer and more convenient, particularly for children, older people and less experienced cyclists.
- The roundabout itself is currently being reconstructed. It's new design will slow traffic on approach and new crossings at all arms of the roundabout, offering priority for walking and cycling, will make it safer for vulnerable road users.
- ease of use by those who are blind and have loss of vision.
despite many appeals by the locals to local councillors and TDs there hasn’t been any change so it is time for the locals to take it into their own hands.
We urge Fingal County Council to reconsider and revert the recent changes to Moylaragh Roundabout to restore safety, efficiency, and practicality for all road users. Our community's safety and well-being depend on it.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
