The Issue

To Paul Akinjo and the Lathrop City Council,

The City of Lathrop has recently increased cricket field rental fees by approximately 300-400%. This increase is a direct result of the removal of longstanding nonprofit/community pricing, forcing local leagues to move to significantly higher standard rental rates.

Cricket is one of the fastest-growing sports in our region and provides meaningful benefits to the community. It promotes youth development, physical fitness, and social inclusion, while bringing together diverse communities and families every week. Local leagues are community-driven and operate on a nonprofit basis, making the sport accessible and affordable for residents of all backgrounds.

The removal of nonprofit rates—combined with the shift to much higher standard pricing—threatens the sustainability of these leagues and risks pricing out a large portion of the community.

We respectfully request the City to:

  • Reinstate nonprofit or community-based rental rates
  • Ensure fair and consistent pricing across all sports
  • Recognize and support the positive impact of cricket in the community
  • Engage with local cricket organizations before implementing major changes

Public recreational spaces should remain accessible to all communities. Sign this petition to support equitable access to sports and help preserve cricket in Lathrop.
