Reverse the Virginia Cell Phone Ban in Schools (Reverse Executive Order 33/SB 738)

Reverse the Virginia Cell Phone Ban in Schools (Reverse Executive Order 33/SB 738)
The Issue
Virginia students are concerned about the upcoming implications of Executive Order 33/SB 738, informally known as the Bell-to-Bell VA Cell Phone Ban. This bill prohibits cell phone access during the entire school day, including non-instructional periods. However, students, parents, teachers, and board members are concerned with the potential consequences. Thousands of students work, are involved in sports/extracurriculars, and rely on cell phones as quick, easy-to-use means of communication for practices, events, academic updates, and so on. Additionally, with the rise of violence in Virginia schools, students feel unsafe, not having the ability to contact emergency contacts independently without the use of a central school device. This petition aims to reverse the current Executive Order passed by Gov. Youngkin, the VA Senate, and House back to the previous policy, where cell phones were banned only during instructional time.
