Reverse the Unjust Parking Fee Increase at Sacramento State

The Issue

Sacramento State raised daily student parking from $8.50 to $10 (a nearly 18% increase) without warning, explanation, or student input.

For commuting students, that’s an extra $1.50 per day that adds up to over $100 per semester, on top of rising tuition, housing, and food costs.

Other nearby universities charge way less; UC Davis is $4.50–$5.60, and Sonoma State is $6/day. So why are Sac State students being charged more with no transparency?

This increase wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the university’s recent budget documents, and it comes at a time when required courses are being cut due to budget issues. We, as students, are paying more but getting less.

We, the undersigned, demand that Sacramento State:

  1. Roll back the recent price hike and reduce daily parking fees.
  2. Publicly explain how parking fees are calculated and where the revenue goes.
  3. Include student voices in future decisions on campus parking and transportation costs.

Students deserve affordable access to their education, not a $10 daily toll just to show up to class.
