Reverse the Unauthorized Conversion of Regular Exit to Emergency Exit

The Issue

I am one among the many tenants of our building affected by the recent unauthorized conversion of an in-use exit into an "emergency exit." An alteration that not only increased the distance to our vehicles and waste disposal area but also disturbingly violated New Jersey Fire safety regulations and Building codes.

These regulations demand a meticulous procedure to be followed when any changes are being made to a building's safety standards. This includes a necessary inspection by the Building Inspector and Town Fire Chief, ensuring all changes are in accordance with the established codes. Concerningly, none of these regulations were upheld during the conversion in our building.

This breach not only flouts regulatory compliance but poses a direct threat to us residents. We are burdened with additional stress, inconvenience, and the silent yet potential danger of living in a building that does not comply with fire safety norms. Such an act is not just a violation of building codes but also a disregard for our safety and well-being.

Thus, we petition the building management to reverse this unauthorized conversion and uphold the safety and standards of our building. We implore the NJ Fire Safety Regulatory Board and concerned authorities to investigate this non-compliance and ensure that fire safety regulations are strictly adhered to, not only in our building but across all buildings in the state.

Help us fight for adherence to fire safety regulations and building codes. Your signature can help make our building a safer place. Please sign and share the petition.
