The issue

The Lake Clifton Garden Centre is a vital part of our community, deeply embedded in the daily lives of Lake Clifton residents and those from surrounding suburbs. For many locals, this garden centre represents more than just a place to purchase plants; it is a cornerstone for promoting environmental stewardship, supporting local biodiversity, and fostering a sense of community.

Thanks to Jason and Peta, the dedicated owners of the Lake Clifton Garden Centre, our community has thrived in its efforts to enhance our natural landscape through promoting the government’s tree-bate program. This important initiative has led to a significant increase in the planting of native trees, thereby providing essential habitats for our endangered species of birds and marsupials. The dedication of Jason and Peta has not only educated locals on the importance of preserving our native flora but has also made these efforts accessible by providing a nearby resource many cannot find elsewhere.

The closure of this garden centre would have severe repercussions on our community's ability to maintain its green spaces and protect our local wildlife. Many residents, particularly those who cannot venture far, rely heavily on the centre’s convenient location for all their gardening needs. It has become a hub for native plant lovers and an invaluable educational resource.

We urge the shire to reconsider this detrimental decision. Closing the Lake Clifton Garden Centre means losing a green ally and retreating from the progress we have made in local conservation efforts. We need this centre's ongoing support to continue thriving as a community committed to environmental health.

Please sign this petition to keep Lake Clifton Garden Centre open, so that we can continue caring for our environment and supporting native wildlife together.
