The Issue

I am writing this petition with a heavy heart as I face eviction from my home for doing something I deeply care about: taking care of the feral and stray cats in our community through a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program. For years, I've been committed to feeding and providing basic care for these cats, working tirelessly to ensure they are healthy and not contributing to the population growth. However, due to a recent cruel feeding ban implemented by our community council, my efforts and the well-being of these cats are being threatened.

Trap-Neuter-Return is a humane and effective method to manage and eventually reduce feral cat populations. Studies have shown that TNR not only stabilizes the colony size over time but also improves the overall health of the cats by reducing the spread of diseases and decreasing the number of kittens born in the wild. This practice is supported by numerous animal welfare organizations, including the ASPCA and the Humane Society, because it represents a compassionate and scientifically proven solution to the issues stemming from feral cat populations.

By implementing a feeding ban, our community is turning a blind eye to the benefits of TNR and placing the lives of these innocent animals at risk. Starvation is not a humane solution. Denying food to these cats not only risks their health but could also lead to an increase in public health concerns as starving animals may resort to rummaging through trash, leading to unsanitary conditions.

Furthermore, the current ban contradicts the very essence of community and compassion. As residents, we have a responsibility to care for our local environment and its inhabitants, human or otherwise. Evicting individuals like myself for showing compassion is not only unjust but also detrimental to our community spirit.

I urge our community leaders and local council to reverse this inhumane feeding ban and instead embrace programs that support and enhance the implementation of TNR. Solutions can include designated feeding areas, regular monitoring, and collaboration with local animal shelters to expedite neutering and return processes.

Please sign this petition to protect the TNR cats in our community, support humane animal care practices, and oppose the eviction of those who show compassion towards homeless animals. Together, we can make a difference.
