The Issue

WE NEED 5000 SIGNATURES FOR FULL COUNCIL DEBATE

The recent implementation of the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) in St Ives has wreaked havoc on our vibrant community. As a resident who has lived and thrived in this charming Cornish town for years, I am calling for an immediate reversal of this poorly executed traffic trial. **Cornwall Council, St Ives Town Council, and Cormac Infrastructure Design Group** must hear our plea and take action to rectify the damage caused.

Over the past few months, I have witnessed firsthand how the northbound restrictions on Tregenna Hill, along with alterations to Albert Road and Park Avenue, have disrupted daily life. Traffic management systems and road closures have bottlenecked critical routes, resulting in gridlock, delays, and frustration for locals and tourists alike. Our community depends on the smooth flow of traffic for business operations, emergency services, and everyday commuting. Instead, we find ourselves trapped in a quagmire of congestion.

Moreover, local businesses are bearing the brunt of these changes. St Ives, renowned for its thriving tourism industry, is seeing a downturn as visitors find it increasingly difficult to navigate through the town. This is jeopardizing livelihoods and the local economy, which heavily depends on the steady influx of tourists. Without immediate action, the long-lasting effects on our local business owners could be devastating.

The ETRO's limited consultation process has also left residents feeling voiceless and sidelined. Decisions that affect our daily lives should be made transparently and inclusively. Community engagement must be prioritized to ensure that future traffic solutions truly benefit the people who call St Ives home.

We acknowledge that traffic management is a challenge, but there must be a better approach that considers the needs and realities of our town. We propose a comprehensive review of the trial results with input from all stakeholders, a re-assessment of the feasibility of the changes, and the exploration of alternative traffic management strategies that balance efficiency with accessibility.

Join us in urging our local authorities to prioritize the well-being of St Ives residents and its future. Sign this petition to reverse the ETRO and restore accessibility to our beloved roads. Together, we can demand traffic solutions that work for everyone.
