Reverse the decision to not reimburse parking at Tameside Wellness Denton & Active Ashton

The Issue

On 5 April, Active Tameside announced that they would no longer reimburse the parking charge for people using their Tameside Wellness Centre and Active Ashton starting on 17 April 2023.

That means for the many people across Tameside that use these two centres, with less than two weeks notice, they’ll have to find an extra £1 each time they visit.

As a parent with three children that use Active Tameside centres every week, that will quickly mount up. It’s also happened in the same month that children’s swimming and gymnastics lessons have gone up in price by £1.75/month.

As an example of the impact that this could have, for a family with three children using the centre in Denton for swimming lessons it could mean an increase in costs of £17.25/month between March and April 2023. That’s an increase of 25.3%.

For many people the only decision they’ll be able to make is to stop using these valuable facilities which will impact both their mental and physical health in so many ways.

This petition asks Active Tameside to reverse their decision and continue to reimburse these parking charges until a better solution can be arrived at in partnership with Tameside Council which means people and families in Tameside can continue to use their valuable facilities.

We believe this is the only way they can live up to their values of inspiring the people of Tameside into living healthier, happier and more active lives as part of their local community.
