Reverse the decision to discontinue The Gentleman’s Relish

Reverse the decision to discontinue The Gentleman’s Relish
The Issue
The Gentleman's Relish® is a beloved staple in homes throughout the land, its distinctive flavour enhancing morning toast and adding a special zest to stews. The nation has enjoyed this unique pepper pâté, which, much like Marmite, carved out a niche as a divisive yet iconic British food product since its inception in the 1820s and official launch in 1849. Its discontinuation by AB World Foods is more than just a loss of a culinary delight; it is yet another loss of a part of our culinary heritage.
After all, as Samuel Montgomery wrote in The Telegraph on 8th April 2026:
"Whenever Ian Fleming dined at Scott’s in Piccadilly Circus, the chances are his order would include a Martini (large), Colchester oysters and Guinness. Another of his favourites was Scotch woodcock – a savoury dish of scrambled eggs on toast spread with one crucial ingredient: Gentleman’s Relish. Fleming, author of the James Bond spy stories, loved the anchovy paste, even writing it into For Your Eyes Only."
"Adml Sir Sydney Smith, who successfully defended Acre against Napoleon in 1799, is said to have hailed the paste as “the most delicious breakfast-table accompaniment” he had ever tasted."
The decision to stop producing The Gentleman's Relish® affects not just those of us that love it, but the cultural tapestry of British cuisine. This savoury spread, with its rich legacy dating back nearly two centuries, deserves to continue gracing our tables. As consumers, we have cherished this delightful delicacy and the eradication of it diminishes the diversity of gastronomy.
AB World Foods, we urge you to reconsider this decision. At the very least, selling the brand to another food company or individual willing to continue its production is a viable solution. Such actions can honor the loyal customer base and ensure the continuity of The Gentleman's Relish's cherished place in our food history.
Let's preserve this unique element of our culinary heritage. I implore all those who appreciate the rich flavours and historical significance of The Gentleman's Relish® to join me in asking AB World Foods to reverse their decision or allow another entity to continue its production. Your signature can help save this iconic product for future generations.
