Reverse the decision to allow an external promoter to run the TT races! #SaveTheTT

The Issue

The planned privatisation of the TT races is an ill-conceived idea that is likely to prove harmful to the event.  The current arrangement, whereby the Manx Government is responsible for the running of the races, ensures accountability to the taxpayer and, therefore, the racegoer.  Under Vision Nine, there is a very real risk that this may be lost and attendees - from racers to teams to officials to fans, all of whom will be affected by this change - may have little effective recourse if something should go wrong.  In addition, costs may increase (e.g. with expensive food, forced seating instead of the freedom to watch close to the road for no charge that race fans enjoy at present and pay-per-view TV coverage being features that the new promoters could eventually introduce) to the point where the TT will move beyond the reach of ordinary race fans and become the preserve of the wealthy - something that it was never supposed to be.  In addition, it is likely that despite Vision Nine's stated plans to set up a local office, the fact that they are based off-Island means that the local economy will not receive much income from these additional charges, should they be levied.  Finally, the suggested idea that the races could possibly be screened live on TV is unworkable, given that there is always the possibility of delays and the associated long periods of time with no race action, plus the ever-present potential for an incident to be televised.  Attendance figures may also be damaged as fans could choose to stay at home.

The North West 200 in Northern Ireland has been ruined for many race fans by the promoters' apparent concern with money above all else (it has also been suggested that the live screening that has been introduced over recent years is at least partly to blame for falling attendances) and it would be a tragedy and an injustice if the event that is generally considered the world's greatest road race were to suffer the same fate.  The reversal of this decision would prevent this happening.
