Reverse the 'Bell to Bell' Phone Ban in NH Schools

Reverse the 'Bell to Bell' Phone Ban in NH Schools
The Issue
Experiencing bad mental health due to school pressures is not uncommon for many students, including myself. The restrictive 'Bell to Bell' phone ban, which prevents students from using their phones from the start of the school day to its conclusion, is contributing to this stress. This policy is severely affecting our mental well-being and hinders our ability to reach out for support when we most need it.
The necessity for students to occasionally use their phones during the school day goes beyond simple leisure; it's about ensuring access to vital communication methods. In times of emergency, the ability to connect quickly with family or authorities can make a crucial difference. Schools should be preparing us comprehensively for the future, including responsible and balanced technology usage, not shielding us entirely from it.
Furthermore, studies show that technology, when used appropriately, can assist in learning and reduce stress. According to the American Psychological Association, 71% of teens believe they need a mental health day to cope with school concerns. By easing the ban, schools can take a step towards respecting students' needs for mental health resources and emergency access.
By revising the 'Bell to Bell' ban, New Hampshire schools would demonstrate a commitment to nurturing both the academic success and mental well-being of their students. We propose implementing a more flexible policy that allows for phone usage during specific times and ensures students have instant access in emergency situations.
Let’s make school a more supportive environment for current and future students. Sign this petition to urge New Hampshires Governor to reconsider this detrimental phone policy.
