Reverse the Ban on Diwali Fireworks in Brampton

The Issue

This year, my four-year-old sister was eagerly waiting to celebrate Diwali with fireworks. Her excitement turned into disappointment and tears when we had to tell her that our city's mayor, Patrick Brown, has banned all fireworks for Diwali. While this decision may have been made with safety concerns in mind, it is hard not to feel targeted when the same restrictions are not applied to Victoria Day or Canada Day celebrations.

Diwali is a significant festival for many South Asian families in Brampton. It's a time of joy and celebration where families come together and create lasting memories. The City of Brampton has proposed an event as a substitute for individual family celebrations this year. However, most people prefer celebrating Diwali at home with their loved ones rather than at public events.

We understand the need for safety measures but believe there can be alternative solutions that allow us to celebrate our traditions safely without completely banning them. We urge Mayor Patrick Brown and the City Council of Brampton to reconsider their decision on banning fireworks during Diwali.

Let's ensure that every resident of Brampton can enjoy their cultural festivals fully without feeling singled out or discriminated against. Please sign this petition if you believe in equal treatment for all cultural celebrations within our city.
