Reverse the Ban: No Borders, Just Racing!
The issue
The recent regulation change that prohibits interstate racing at our beloved State Series has sent a shockwave through our racing community. This decision has isolated our racers, limited opportunities for growth, and undermined the spirit of competition that defines the sport. Interstate competitions are fundamental to our racing community, fostering camaraderie, pushing athletic boundaries, and providing racers with vital exposure to a diverse range of competitors.
Historically, interstate racing has been a cornerstone of ALL State Series events. It has allowed local talent the opportunity to challenge themselves against the best, developing skill, racecraft, and sportsmanship on a national level. The ban not only affects athletes but also the broader community, including local businesses that thrive during these events due to increased patronage by out-of-state visitors.
The State Series has long served as a critical development and preparation pathway for drivers before fully committing to the highest level of karting in Australia — the Australian Kart Championship (AKC). It allows competitors to test themselves in a high-level, competitive environment without the significant financial and logistical commitment required at a national level. Removing interstate participation weakens this pathway and limits drivers’ ability to assess readiness, competitiveness, and progression before stepping up to the AKC.
Participation in interstate events is crucial for the personal and professional development of our racers. Without exposure to broader competition, athletes are deprived of essential experiences that build competitive skills, adaptability, and resilience. This ban has the potential to create long-term negative impacts on driver development and career progression.
Furthermore, younger athletes who aspire to compete at higher levels are denied the opportunity to race in dynamic and challenging environments. This regulation threatens to stifle their potential, as they are unable to measure their progress against diverse competitors or learn from a wide range of racing styles and techniques.
In light of these concerns, we, the racing community, urge the regulatory authorities to revisit and reverse this decision. Rather than restricting participation, alternative solutions could be explored that maintain safety and integrity while preserving open and competitive racing. We need regulations that support — not hinder — the passion, development, and sustainability of our sport.
We implore racing authorities and stakeholders to consider the long-term consequences of this ban on competitors, clubs, and the future of karting. By signing this petition, you stand with us in calling for a balanced approach that protects both the wellbeing of the community and the competitive strength of State Series racing.
Let’s restore interstate racing and reignite the spirit of our State Series. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
