I am deeply invested in the world of table tennis, and as someone responsible for managing 11 teams signed up for the CadetBCL, JuniorBCL, and Girls' CadetBCL competitions, I am disheartened to see Table Tennis England's recent decision. They have announced the postponement of these crucial leagues due to the departure of the Competition & Events Officer and a decision not to recruit a replacement.

This decision impacts hundreds of young athletes who have trained rigorously and were eagerly anticipating the chance to showcase their skills. These competitions are not just about winning; they are monumental opportunities for personal growth, teamwork, and community engagement. They serve as a foundation for many young athletes' future pursuits in table tennis.

The decision to postpone, rather than immediately initiate recruitment efforts for the vacant role, is deeply short-sighted. As a community of players, coaches, parents, and fans, we must come together to urge Table Tennis England to prioritise the swift recruitment of a qualified officer to ensure that these competitions take place as intended. It is crucial to recognise the importance of these events not only in fostering young talent but also in strengthening the community's spirit and engagement with the sport.

Other sports and organisations have demonstrated that even amidst staffing challenges, prioritising events for upcoming talent is critical. We ask Table Tennis England to align its priorities with those of its community by considering immediate interim solutions, such as hiring a temporary officer or redistributing responsibilities within the existing team until a permanent solution is found.

The postponement of the CadetBCL, JuniorBCL, and Girls' CadetBCL has left many young players disheartened. Reversing this decision and ensuring these competitions go forward as planned would not only uphold the commitments already made but also reinstate trust and enthusiasm in our beloved sport.
