Prom is a special occasion, a night filled with memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. It’s a time when students have the opportunity to celebrate with their friends and loved ones. This year, however, many of us at Lancaster High School find ourselves disappointed and stressed due to an unexpected change in the prom guest policy.

The new principal announced a rule that restricts prom guests to only seniors or juniors. This sudden change has caused significant issues, as numerous students have already made plans for this important event, which includes buying non-refundable tickets and arranging attire and transportation. Many of us were planning to invite guests who are not juniors or seniors, and this abrupt change disrupts our plans and potentially wastes hard-earned money already spent on preparations.

In previous years, students were allowed to invite guests irrespective of their class status, a system that worked perfectly and allowed everyone to enjoy prom without restrictions. There was no notification given in a timely manner about this new rule. This lack of communication and consideration for student preparedness is disappointing.

We understand that changes may be implemented with good intentions, but we believe this decision is unfair and should be reconsidered. By reverting to the previous guest policy, or at least offering a compromise such as granting an exception for this year’s prom, the administration would demonstrate understanding and compassion for the affected students.

Please join us in asking Lancaster High School to reverse the recent change to the prom guest policy or, at the very least, grant exceptions for students who have already purchased tickets with the expectation of the previous policy. Our aim is to ensure a memorable and inclusive prom experience for everyone involved.
