Reverse Onkaparinga Council's Decision to Charge for Bulk Green Waste Drop-Off

Reverse Onkaparinga Council's Decision to Charge for Bulk Green Waste Drop-Off
The issue
The Onkaparinga Council's recent decision to charge for bulk green waste drop-off has left many ratepayers dissatisfied. Previously, this service was included in our rates and touted by Council as a key method of encouraging residents to reduce fuel loads, subsequently decreasing bushfire risk. This change shows a disregard for our environment and contradicts the council's previous efforts to protect our community from potential bushfire hazards. The Onkaparinga region is known for its greenery and, accordingly, its high bushfire risk. According to the South Australian Country Fire Service, nearly half of the catastrophic bushfires in Australia's history have occurred in South Australia, demonstrating the vital nature of green waste management in our community.
As a resident and ratepayer of 33 years, I launch this petition to call on the Onkaparinga Council to reconsider its decision and refrain from charging for bulk green waste drop-off, restoring this service as a part of the general rates. Help us make our community safer.
