Reverse Manatee County's Garbage Collection Decision

The Issue

Taxpayers in Manatee County, Florida are facing a new challenge. Despite paying the same amount in taxes, we are now subjected to reduced garbage collection services. The recent decision to cut back on garbage collection from twice-a-week to just once-a-week while still charging us the same fees lacks fairness and transparency.

This isn't just about convenience; it’s about what’s just. The deduction in service without a corresponding decrease in fees is effectively charging us more for less. Furthermore, we are restricted to using only the county-provided bins, a one-size-fits-all solution that doesn’t consider the needs of all residents. For decades, we’ve had the freedom to use our own bins, which has worked perfectly fine. This sudden imposition is both impractical and frustrating for many.

Additionally, this change brings with it a vital concern about employment. We strongly advocate that this revision shouldn’t jeopardize the jobs of our diligent waste collectors. Manatee County needs to find a balanced approach that doesn’t involve downsizing their workforce.

We urge the Manatee County administration to either maintain the twice-a-week collection with the new county bins or continue allowing the use of our own bins. The well-being of the community should be the primary concern, and residents rightly deserve a say in decisions that impact their daily lives and environment.

Please help restore our previously efficient garbage collection system and prevent potential job losses among our community's essential workers. Sign this petition to demand that Manatee County reverse its decision on the trash collection schedule, reconsider the restriction on bins, and ensure no job losses among waste collection personnel. Let's work together to ensure our community remains a clean and fair place for all its residents.
