The Issue

As an alumnus of the Arkansas School for the Deaf, I have experienced the beauty and challenge of being part of a unique learning environment. Having attended two separate schools in my lifetime, I know the importance of cultural and language sensitivity in education.

I am deeply concerned about HB1810, a new law which, in its current form, may negatively impact the school due to language and cultural barriers. Existing studies, such as the report from California Education for the Deaf, highlights the unique challenges and needs of deaf and blind students[1]. Inequality and difficulty in communication can create an environment where some students are left behind.

It's crucial that our institutions for learning are furnished with the right resources and understanding. Removing HB1810 will allow time for further revision and consulting to create a law that works for everyone, including the hardworking educators at the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind.

We use our voices so these value-led institutions can continue to support our children's right to a fair education. Please stand with us as we petition for the withdrawal of HB1810. Sign our petition today.
