Reverse Etsy Inc's anticompetitive exclusive shipping deal that impacts U.S consumers.

The Issue

Etsy announced the exclusive deal with ShipEntegra on May 29, 2024. As a result, Etsy Open API no longer shares address information of orders of Turkey based sellers with any other application (although approved by Etsy otherwise) but ShipEntegra.  Although Etsy states “Existing sellers who were using a different shipping provider via the Open API on or before June 3 can still use their legacy provider in that way. Additionally, all sellers in Turkey can continue to use the shipping partner of their choice outside of the Etsy ecosystem by manually entering the tracking number in Shop Manager.” , they block users even before this June 3 date if the user needs to re-authenticate their connection between their app and Etsy.

At first glance, it seems like an issue overseas but it is not. This decision by Etsy directly affects the American consumers. Etsy is an international marketplace and U.S customers will now witness higher prices from Turkey based sellers as a result of Etsy's decision of giving the Turkish sellers one Shipping option and application within its ecosystem.

Additionally, this gives an uncompetitive advantage to a foreign business over U.S based businesses. How? Even leading U.S based software applications and integrations such as Shopify, ShipStation, SellerCloud  and many more, are affected because Etsy will not include address information of orders with these companies.

My small business and start-up, Podbul, located in Farmingdale, New York is also affected. We provide print-on-demand services to Etsy sellers and have many customers in Turkey. We are now forced by Etsy to use ShipEntegra eco-system to integrate with our Turkish customers. The most interesting part is that company also has a sub-division that is our direct competitor. How does this make sense and how does it benefit Etsy customer?

I urge Etsy Inc, the Chief Executive Officer Josh Silverman and all decision makers of Etsy Inc to reconsider this poor decision. I also urge all Etsy Inc shareholders, and stakeholders to bring attention to this petition before it leads to an antitrust coverage and hurts Etsy.

Thank you
