Reverse Coventry City Council's Decision to Defund CRASAC

Reverse Coventry City Council's Decision to Defund CRASAC
The Issue
I am one of the many individuals who has been profoundly impacted by the services provided by CRASAC (Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre). At the age of 7, I was sexually abused. The shame and fear kept me silent for years until my health began to deteriorate at 22 due to unresolved trauma from my childhood abuse. My doctor directed me to CRASAC as there were no NHS services equipped to handle such cases. The support and counselling I received through CRASAC have been instrumental in helping me regain control over my life, a lifeline that is now under threat to reduce their services due to Coventry City Council's decision to withdraw funding.
CRASAC is not just a charity; it is a beacon of hope for countless men (me being one of them), women, and children affected by rape and sexual assault in our community. They provide invaluable support during interactions with police, court proceedings, and most importantly - they offer therapeutic counselling services that help survivors reclaim their lives after such traumatic experiences.
The importance of these services cannot be overstated - even the NHS can’t provide support and refers patients directly to CRASAC due its specialised expertise. It is therefore deeply concerning that this vital resource could be reduced at a time they are needed most because of budget cuts. For clarity there is a 450% increase in demand for these services and it’s seen as a service that no longer requires Coventry City Councils Support.
We urge Coventry City Council not only consider the immediate impact on those currently receiving help from CRASAC but also future victims who will need these essential services. Please reverse your decision on withdrawing funding for this indispensable organisation.
