Reverse Chewelah's Decade-Long Moratorium on Recreational and Medical Marijuana Stores

The Issue

As long-standing proprietors of marijuana dispensaries in Stevens County since 2013, largely servicing the Chewelah community, we have borne witness to the hurdles faced by our clients due to city regulations. We want to draw attention to the unsafe traffic conditions around our existing store, positioned just outside the city limits. Not only is the lack of turning lanes in either direction a pressing concern, but the safety of our clientele, a majority from Chewelah, is also at risk. Over a decade ago, the city of Chewelah set a moratorium in place, barring the movement of recreational and medical marijuana stores into the city limits. This has not only curtailed the safer and convenient access of marijuana for our local clients but also hindered the economic progress of Chewelah. Communities across the country have benefited from similar businesses, with marijuana sales amounting to $17.5 billion in 2020 in the U.S., according to New Frontier Data. The reversal of this moratorium will not only promote safety but also contribute to the city's economic progress. Everyone deserves safe and convenient access to legal products. Let's rally to make a change in our beloved city of Chewelah. Please sign this petition to back the reversal of the decade-old moratorium and enable us to set up a marijuana store in a safer, more convenient location within the city limits.
