Grant a speedy appeal to Jason “Blu” Griffith and allow a jury to see all evidence, seen by the judge, in this case.
Grant a speedy appeal to Jason “Blu” Griffith and allow a jury to see all evidence, seen by the judge, in this case.
The Issue
Men are seen as aggressors, strong, heroic, and unbreakable. However, we often neglect to acknowledge the fact that men too can be victims. Domestic violence is a crime, which like rape, many see as a crime only men commit against women. Despite these bias views, born from gender roles and social norms, statistics show that men suffer 40% of domestic violence but are less likely to receive the help their female counterparts do. Should not the same laws and punishments for assaulting, stalking, harassing, threatening someone and/or destroying their property apply to all, no matter their gender? The case of Jason “Blu” Griffith is just one example of this flawed system failing two promising individuals by allowing gender bias to govern their actions. These same laws that failed to protect Jason are now being used to convict him. While his female counterparts like Tammy M. Lucero, also a victim of domestic violence being accused of strangling her abusive boyfriend during a heated argument, maybe given a chance to plead guilty to lesser charges, this system of injustice continues to ignore facts in Jason’s case and be blinded by gender bias.
Please sign this petition asking politicians in Nevada, New York, and Washington, D.C to take note of the injustices done in this case and correct what the system failed to prevent by granting a speedy appeal to Jason “Blu” Griffith and allowing a new jury, if applicable, to see all evidence about the victim and accused in this case.
