Return to weekly black bin collections in Greenwich

Return to weekly black bin collections in Greenwich
The Issue
2023 has seen many pockets of the Royal Borough of Greenwich become like local landfill sites since the introduction of the widely controversial fortnightly collections of general waste from our black bins.
despite fierce opposition the borough went ahead with it in a bid to meet their ‘zero waste’ target.
This unrealistic target has seen many households driving their excess household waste to Nathan Way, and those without the means forced to dump black sacks of rubbish in random places across the borough.
This has resulted in once pleasant areas being strewn with general waste such as nappies, incontinence pads, used sanitary products, dog faeces and food waste-where foxes have seen it as a playground.
In addition to this black bins outside homes have been alive with maggots and flies after only a few days into the fortnightly collection window-despite the best efforts of residents to recycle, compost and clean their bins as often as possible.
This affects our mental and physical health.
We want to see a return to weekly collections so that our homes and neighbourhoods can return to the decent living standard we expect and pay for.
Please sign if you agree. Many thanks.
