We are deeply disappointed about the recent (last minute) changes regarding the long-standing Sunday 1pm sporting booking at Blackman Park affecting all the Senior Women Football Player in Lane Cove LGA Lane Cove Football Club, Greenwich Sporting Club and St Michael’s Football Club and all our Opponents have been forced to play at 5pm on Sunday Nights in the cold and under lights. For over 15 years, this timeslot has been the centerpiece of our local soccer community, impacting over 300 plus female players across three local clubs: Lane Cove, St Michael’s, and Greenwich.

These clubs, all based in Lane Cove, have thrived under this arrangement, fostering community spirit and promoting the importance of sport in the lives of our female athletes. However, this tradition is now under threat. The Lane Cove Council has reassigned this crucial timeslot to another sports code spanning over three suburbs and two councils, meaning our players are now scheduled to play at 5pm on a Sunday night instead.

This change was announced just four weeks away from the season start, significantly impacting our clubs. We recruited over five new teams with the expectation of playing in the original 1pm and 3pm timeslots, allowing our players ample time to return home and manage their family responsibilities after games. The new late timing disrupts this balance, causing inconvenience and potentially diminishing our players’ participation.
It has been clearly documented that older players face a higher risk of sporting injuries when playing under artificial lights at night and we have asked to be documented as a genuine safety concern with Lane Cove Council prior to any incidents occurring.
The decision to alter the schedule without considering the impact on our local community undermines years of commitment and planning. The new arrangement prioritises a sport that covers a broader geographic area over the needs of our local female soccer community. This decision not only affects match timings but also strikes at the heart of our community spirit and organisational planning.

We understand the need for sharing resources; however, a fair compromise that considers the needs of our community must be observed. We urge the council to reconsider the allocation of the primary timeslot and return it to its rightful place for our female athletes who have built their weekends around their love for soccer until a reasonable alternative venue provided.

Join us in urging the Lane Cove Council to reverse their decision and reinstate the 1pm booking for the benefit of our local female soccer players. Sign this petition to support our community, our players, and the future of women's soccer in Lane Cove. Together, we can make a difference and preserve this important tradition for all. Please sign and share this petition with your friends and neighbors! Let's play at 1pm again!
