To all supporters, due to Council commitments Co-Chair of the South & West Gippsland Transport Group and South Gippsland Shire Cr. Andrew McEwen has issued the cancellation of tomorrow night's meeting at the Austral Hotel, Korumburra. Another meeting is planned to be scheduled in January and the details of that will be published once they come to hand. The South & West Gippsland Transport Group appreciates everyone who has signed, shared and promoted our petition ‘Return of the Leongatha to Melbourne Passenger Trains on the South Gippsland Rail Corridor’ since it was initiated 2 years ago on December the 8th, 2013. It is the appropriate time to close the petition as the South & West Gippsland Transport Group will prepare to present and table it to its recipients over the next few weeks. The support that we have received over the last six months since the Public Transport Victoria Regional Network Development Plan Community Consultation at Leongatha has been tremendous. The petition numbers is reflective of this as it only had approximately 800 signatures in July and has tripled since then to 2,420 when closed last night at 11:30pm. Earlier this morning The Great Southern Star, Leongatha contacted the initiator of the petition and South & West Gippsland Transport Group Media Manager Chris Cantlon and this was a great opportunity to acknowledge the efforts that they have made as a media organisation to promote and spread our message. Message sent on behalf of the South & West Gippsland Transport Group: Co-Chair’s Cr. Andrew McEwen and Max Semken and Media Manager Chris Cantlon. “The South & West Gippsland Transport Group aims to improve public transport. It is advocating the return of rail services to Leongatha, to establish a rail loop between Cranbourne and Pakenham and to improve bus services between towns and Melbourne”.
