Return KAKA, the Vietnamese Pet Monkey, Back to Her Family

The Issue

Our beloved pet monkey, KAKA, was forcibly removed from our family in Viet Nam and relocated to a place where she is displayed for visitors who arrive by boat. This sudden, unwarranted separation has left KAKA in a state of extreme distress and loneliness, visibly worn down and depressed. When we visit, she brightens up, eager for the grasshoppers we catch, and her longing to return home is plain to see. Unfortunately, there are also noticeable signs of her decline in health – a significant weight loss indicative of her deteriorating condition.

KAKA is more than a pet to us. She is a cherished member of our family, trained to live with us, to sleep with us. Her absence has left a void in our lives, affecting not just us, but the younger children and our grandma as well. It's hurtful and wrong. Numerous studies show the importance of social bonds for primates, like monkeys. They thrive in familiar environments with their loved ones and the sudden separation can cause significant psychological and physical distress, similar to what KAKA is enduring (Hosey, G., et al., 2013, The Welfare of Primates in Captivity).

Therefore, we urge the authorities to reconsider their decision, taking into account the bond between our family and KAKA, her deteriorating health, and emotional welfare. We passionately plea for KAKA's rightful return to her family where she belongs. Let's stand together for KAKA and show that her well-being matters.
