Return 110 km/hr speed limit - TransCanada Highway (Chestermere/Calgary)

Return 110 km/hr speed limit - TransCanada Highway (Chestermere/Calgary)
The Issue
Alberta Transportation’s recent safety enhancement initiatives included reducing the speed limit for a portion of the Trans-Canada Highway between Chestermere and Calgary to 80 km/hr from 110 km/hr. If the premise of the initiative is to enhance safety then Alberta Transportation must address the concern of how people merge onto TC1 rather than the speed at which they do so. Alberta Transportation could create sustainable infrastructures such as on/off ramps onto the highway for the community of Conrich, allowing the speed limit to remain at 110 km/hr while simultaneously enhancing safety, which although represents a significantly larger expense, is a more sustainable solution which also accounts for future growth of Conrich, Calgary, and Chestermere.
