Somos Carla Bissioli, Gabriela Alvero, Javier Boracchia y Mara Ritrovati. Como profesionales de la educación canina creamos esta petición para ayudar a Arturo.

La casa de Gran Hermano es un ambiente artificial y de alto stress en el que los participantes ingresan por propia voluntad, conociendo a lo que van a exponerse. Hay participantes, sin embargo, que no pueden prestar su consentimiento: los animales no humanos.

Si bien se entiende la nobleza de intención de visibilizar una problemática nacional, vemos con preocupación cómo se han incluido perros en el programa. Y con más preocupación aún, la reciente incorporación de Arturo, el galgo rescatado. Los motivos son:

Los perros son seres vivos y sintientes, con la cognición y las emociones básicas de un niño de 2 ó 3 años.

Un perro rescatado necesita, muchas veces, rehabilitación física. Y con total seguridad, rehabilitación emocional. Las heridas emocionales son invisibles y llevan tiempo en sanar.

Algo fundamental para todo ser vivo, y primordial para la rehabilitación emocional, son los vínculos. Arturo entró a un lugar donde empezará a vincularse con alguna(s) persona(s). Pero poco a poco irá perdiendo esas referencias -a medida que salgan de la casa- hasta que eventualmente deba, incluso, irse de este lugar en el que va aprendiendo a sentirse seguro. A ningún perro le hace bien andar cambiando de familia, pero menos a uno con ese tipo de experiencia de vida.

Los perros son muy empáticos con nuestras emociones. Su olfato prodigioso les permite detectar la composición química de cada emoción que sentimos. Incluso si intentan protegerlo del stress del ambiente, por su olfato puede producirse contagio emocional (el perro se estresa porque los humanos están estresados).

Los perros sometidos a maltrato pueden sufrir de stress post traumático o stress post traumático de largo plazo. Los individuos con ese tipo de condiciones necesitan un ambiente de calma. Las peleas, discusiones e interacciones de ese tipo pueden desencadenar episodios de stress post traumático. Estos perros necesitan de personas instruidas, con conocimientos, o con guía experta para poder lograr una mejora sustancial en un tiempo prudencial. Entendemos que cualquier situación de rescate no cuenta con esas condiciones, y que se hace lo mejor que se puede atento a las circunstancias. No es el caso de Arturo, cuyo caso ya había sido tomado por una ONG que se hizo responsable de su bienestar y recuperación.

La situación de la casa no es la normalidad, ni siquiera para los humanos. Ningún individuo en un ambiente que no es normal mostrará su comportamiento normal. El perro tampoco. Por lo que Arturo no mostrará cómo es un galgo en un hogar.

Para su bienestar emocional, los perros necesitan paseos recreativos para interactuar con otros perros. Esto no parecería poder cumplirse en la no-normalidad de las condiciones de la casa. Necesitan, también, ser comprendidos en su disconfort, muchas veces expresado a través de gruñidos. No hemos observado destreza por parte de los participantes para manejar esas situaciones, ni el más mínimo conocimiento de las señales que da un perro al comunicarse de forma no verbal. Esto puede terminar en mordidas y heridos, lo que dejaría una marca imborrable en Arturo y en la raza. Por lo que algo hecho con buena intención terminará provocando un daño irreparable.

Por eso, pedimos a la producción de Gran Hermano:

- Que retire de la casa a Arturo en forma inmediata.
- Que Arturo sea llevado a un hogar que cumpla con las condiciones necesarias para satisfacer las necesidades para su bienestar físico y emocional (sea definitivo con un adoptante, o de tránsito)
- Que contrate algún profesional educador canino capacitado para trabajar modificación de conducta para minimizar los efectos nocivos que pueda haber provocado en Arturo este experimento. (ofrecemos nuestra ayuda para elegir una persona calificada)
-Que se abstenga de ingresar en esta y/o en próximas ediciones a nuevos animales que no tienen voz ni voto acerca de su propio destino. Es momento de dejar de lado la vetusta idea del uso de los animales para el entretenimiento de los humanos. Esto no beneficia a Arturo de ninguna manera, y formas de visibilizar hay miles. Seguramente puedan encontrar otras que no incluyan dañar lo que se pretende proteger.

We are Carla Bissioli, Gabriela Alvero, Javier Boracchia and Mara Ritrovati. As dog training professionals we created this petition to help Arturo. 

The Big Brother house is an artificial, high-stress environment in which the participants enter on their own free will, knowing what they are going to be exposed to. There are participants, however, who cannot give their consent: non-human animals.
Although we understand the nobility of the intention to make a national problem visible, we see with concern how dogs have been included in the program. And with even more concern, the recent addition of Arturo, the rescued greyhound. The reasons are: 

Dogs are living, sentient beings, with the basic cognition and emotions of a 2 or 3 year old child.
A rescued dog often needs physical rehabilitation. And with total security, emotional rehabilitation. Emotional wounds are invisible and take time to heal. 
Something fundamental for every living being, and essential for emotional rehabilitation, are bonds. Arturo entered a place where he will begin to bond with some person(s). But little by little he will lose those references - as they leave the house - until eventually he will have to leave this place, where he is learning to feel safe. It does no good for any dog to change families, but even less so for one with that type of life experience.

Dogs are very empathetic with our emotions. Their prodigious sense of smell allows them to detect the chemical composition of each emotion we feel. Even if they try to protect it from environmental stress, emotional contagion can occur due to the smell of it (the dog gets stressed because humans are stressed). 

Dogs subjected to abuse can suffer from post-traumatic stress or long-term post-traumatic stress. Individuals with these types of conditions need a calm environment. Fights, arguments and interactions of this type can trigger episodes of post-traumatic stress. These dogs need educated, knowledgeable people, or expert guidance to be able to achieve substantial improvement in a reasonable time. We understand that any rescue situation does not have these conditions, and that we do the best we can based on the circumstances. This is not the case of Arturo, whose case had already been taken up by an NGO that took responsibility for his well-being and recovery. 

The situation in the house is not normal, not even for humans. No individual in an environment that is not normal will display normal behavior. Neither does the dog. So Arturo will not show what a greyhound is like in a home.

For their emotional well-being, dogs need recreational walks to interact with other dogs. This would not seem to be possible in the non-normal conditions of the house. They also need to be understood in their discomfort, often expressed through grunts. We have not observed skill on the part of the participants to handle these situations, nor the slightest knowledge of the signals that a dog gives when communicating non-verbally. This can end in bites and injuries, which would leave an indelible mark on Arturo and the breed. So something done with good intentions will end up causing irreparable damage.

Therefore, we ask the production of Big Brother: 

- Remove Arturo from the house immediately. 
-That Arturo be taken to a home that meets the necessary conditions to satisfy the needs for his physical and emotional well-being (whether permanent with an adopter, or transit) 
- That a professional canine trainer trained to work on behavior modification is hired to minimize the harmful effects that this experiment may have caused in Arturo. (we offer our help in choosing a qualified person) 
-Refrain from entering new animals in this and/or future editions that have no say in their own destiny. It is time to put aside the old idea of using animals for human entertainment. This does not benefit Arturo in any way, and there are thousands of ways to make it visible. Surely the Big Brother production can find others that do not include damaging what they intend to protect.
