Rethink the Designation of Pride Month in June

The Issue

I am a believer, a follower of Christian faith and traditional moral values. While respecting every person's right to have their own beliefs and opinions, I am personally distressed by the marking of June as Pride Month. I see it as contradicting the principle we adhere to as "One nation under God." In our faith, homosexuality is seen as a sin condemned by God. I believe a month-long celebration does not harmonize with a country that condemns the same in its foundational ideologies. According to Pew Research Centre, 65% of American adults describe themselves as Christians, making it a significant proportion of the country's population (Pew Research, 2019). It is, therefore, vital that the cultural and moral sentiments of these people are considered. This is not about denying rights or equality to any group, but about ensuring that the cultural inclusivity and diversity that we so cherish as a nation are maintained. This petition hopes to provoke a discussion around rethinking the allocation of Pride Month in June. This is not a call to end Pride Month, but a respectful appeal for a reconsideration of its timeline, so as to reflect the core values of all citizens. Stand with us for a respectful dialogue.
