We, the concerned residents and supporters of the Suncrest community, call on the Monongalia County Circuit Court to uphold the original intent and spirit of the deed for the Suncrest Primary School property.

The land where Suncrest Primary once stood was never meant to be taken over for purposes beyond either 1) instructing our primary school-aged children or 2) becoming a park. Our local community association deeded this land to the Mon County Board of Education solely for the operation of a school to instruct local children. The deed is clear: if the property is no longer used for this educational purpose, it must revert to a public park for the benefit of the community – with trustees appointed by the court (see "Reference Info" below).

Generations of families have attended Suncrest Primary. Many of us grew up in this neighborhood, live here now, or purchased homes with the understanding that this land was part of a shared legacy – meant to serve the people, not be taken from them.

When Suncrest Elementary was built elsewhere and Suncrest Primary fell into disrepair by Mon County BOE, sadly, it had to be razed. But we never agreed to give up the land, and certainly not to be used for other purposes. The deed never allowed for that.

We demand that the court honor the original agreement and protect this land for the public good. We cannot allow the Mon County Board of Education to take ownership in contradiction to what was promised.
