Dr. Sherman is an essential part of our lives at Palm Valley School. He has decades of experience teaching advanced coursework. He has been Head of School at multiple top-tier private schools in Southern California. He has the academic pedigree to pull private schools forward. He welcomes every individual and family with a warmth that makes the institution feel like a second home.

Dr. Sherman and his wife made this school their life, they personally invested in it and devoted all their time to the school. The community thrives under this kind of dedicated leadership.

On 11/11/24, the Board of Trustees announced they had decided to replace him halfway through the school year. Without notice or warning to any parties, with untold reasons. So far there has been a lack of transparency about any of the factors leading up to this drastic action.  

This sudden decision not only disrupts the harmony within the school but also questions the value of the tuition contract paid for the entire school year.

The Board of Trustees' past decisions have often been criticized, and losing Dr. Sherman only adds to the list of their questionable actions. We need stable and familiar leadership, especially during these challenging academic years. Those of us who have had the good fortune to know and work with Dr. Sherman believe he is a leader who puts his students and staff at the heart of every decision. His absence would mean a loss to us all.

In light of these circumstances, we collectively request the Board of Trustees reconsider their decision and keep Dr. Sherman as head of the school. At least for the duration of this school year.
We believe that his continued presence is absolutely critical for the success and stability of the Palm Valley School. Such a breakup is unhealthy for students to endure.
