Retain current leadership at University of St. Thomas

Retain current leadership at University of St. Thomas
The Issue
My son, who is on the autism spectrum, has found remarkable support and growth under the current leadership of Dr. Nicole Walters and Dr. Tera Torres, who oversee the Pragmatic Studies and Bachelors of Applied Sciences programs at the University of St. Thomas. Like many other parents, I have witnessed the positive impact that these leaders have had on my child's educational experience, providing an inclusive and supportive environment.
Dr. Walters and Dr. Torres have cultivated a program that understands and addresses the unique needs of students on the autism spectrum. They have established an environment where our children can thrive and reach their full potential. Their commitment has been demonstrated over the years through tailored educational approaches and inclusive learning opportunities which are unparalleled.
Recent discussions about potential changes in leadership have raised significant concerns among parents and guardians. The possibility of transitioning to new leadership under whom the specialized support might not continue as effectively could harm the progress many of our children have made. This change would not only unsettle students but could disrupt the close-knit community and support systems so carefully built by Dr. Walters and Dr. Torres.
Statistics show that educational environments which are adaptive and supportive significantly enhance the learning potential of students on the autism spectrum. According to the National Autistic Society, individualized support and understanding are crucial in helping autistic students succeed academically.
We propose retaining the Pragmatic Studies Program and moving the BAAS program from the Department of Education to the Kolbe Success Center under the leadership of Dr. Nicole Walters and Dr. Tera Torres. This will ensure the ongoing success and well-being of our children. Their leadership is not just beneficial but essential for our students, particularly those on the autism spectrum, to continue thriving. If these changes are not met, we as parents will be forced to withdraw our students from the University of St. Thomas.
Please join me in preserving this invaluable environment. Stand with us in asking the University of St. Thomas to house the Pragmatic Studies and BAAS program under the Kolbe Success center and recognize and maintain the leadership of Dr. Walters and Dr. Torres. Your signature can make a difference and secure a supportive future for students who depend on this unique learning environment.
