Resurrect AOL (America On Line), the Original Social Media Platform

The Issue

In 1998, when the concept of finding love through technology was still in its infancy, I met my spouse on AOL. This year, we celebrate 25 years of a beautiful relationship that originated from AOL Personals. Our life together is not simply a testimony to true love but also a testament to the power AOL once held as a social media platform.

Many of us remember AOL as the multi-pronged platform and technological pioneer of the late 90s and early 2000s that served as our comprehensive online hub. It bridged the gap between connectivity and entertainment, offering several integrated solutions like AIM instant messenger, dedicated groups, personal web pages, a sales platform akin to the likes of eBay and Craigslist today, email services, chat rooms, and even a dedicated web browser.

AOL shaped online interaction in ways that today's mainstream platforms like Facebook/Meta, despite their sophistication, have not. Facebook's approach to social networking falls short of AOL's all-encompassing experience.

Today, we call on all former AOL users, technology enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a more blended and integrative social media experience to demand the reinstatement of AOL (America On Line). A return of AOL will not only revive an era of comprehensive online interaction, but it will also provide a robust alternative to existing social media platforms.

Let's champion for the comeback of AOL. Let's celebrate the legacy that brought people together before the dawn of contemporary social media. Sign this petition if you too believe in the power of a revived AOL.
