Our city has approved a project to improve our community, a new cycle path on Trethewey Drive, however there is a push to undo this plan, even though it costs virtually nothing and doesn't remove car lanes. 

Resurfacing Trethewey Drive with bike lanes would make the road safer and more useful for everyone in the community. The redesign can calm traffic, reduce speeding, and create dedicated space for cyclists while not removing any car lanes. Improving the road at the same time as the resurfacing project is also efficient, since the city can upgrade safety and transportation options without needing additional construction later, at virtually no additional cost. Bike lanes also help connect neighborhoods to transit, parks, and nearby streets, giving residents more ways to travel around the area.

Bike lanes provide an affordable and practical transportation option because bikes don’t require gas, making them cheaper to use and better for the environment. They also make it easier for children and teens to safely bike to school, giving young people more independence and a healthy way to travel. Overall, adding bike lanes during the resurfacing project helps create a safer, more connected street that benefits drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and families in the community.
