The Issue
For over a decade, I have been riding at the Railroad Skatepark in Lewisville, Texas, and it has become more than just a place for skating to me—it's a community hub where friendships are formed, challenges are faced, and skills are honed. I have shared countless joyful moments here, introducing my children to the world of skating, and cultivating a passion for the sport that I hope will be passed down through future generations. However, the park's current condition is jeopardizing its role as a safe haven and a beacon for skaters like me.
The Railroad Skatepark is in dire need of resurfacing and significant improvements in its water mitigation system. Persistent water puddles often collect on the concrete, posing safety risks as they make parts of the skatepark unusable. This issue persists even on dry days, necessitating manual removal of water to prevent accidents. Moreover, the water egress has led to cracking, chipping, and algae growth on the surface, endangering the safety of those eager to ride.
The state of the park not only affects the current community of skateboarders but can dissuade potential new members from joining. Keeping it in optimal condition is vital for promoting physical activity, fostering community ties, and providing opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment.
To address these issues, I urge the Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department to allocate necessary resources for the resurfacing of the skatepark and improvement of its water drainage system. This could involve sealing the current surface, filling the cracks, and implementing an efficient water egress solution to ensure a dry and safe environment for all users
Investing in these improvements will preserve the skatepark’s legacy and relevance for new generations of skaters in the Lewisville community.
Join me in this crucial effort by signing this petition to urge the necessary changes that the Railroad Skatepark deserves. Together, we can ensure a safer, more enjoyable space for skateboarders and other enthusiasts in the area.
