The Issue

The wellbeing of the student body at Sheridan College has consistently been a concern of the lowest priority under the Current Administration.

Sheridan College is renowned for its innovation and artistry, yet recent actions have painted a new picture of the school's future: Professors have been strong-armed out of positions, support staff are under-supported, programs and on-campus facilities are being SHUT DOWN, and students cannot even enroll for the programs that cost them THOUSANDS of dollars! During the recent support staff strike, it was the STUDENTS who bore the brunt of the shutdown, losing access to advertised facilities, support, enrichment programs, and many were even subjected to unsafe physical conditions as a result of the in-person strike activities. Students continually report experiencing a lowered quality of life, increased concerns about mental health, and an ever-decreasing sense of school identity and positive future prospects.

What has the administration done in the meantime?

  • INCREASED SALARIES for higher-level Administration positions
  • REMOVED PROGRAMS and courses available to students
  • INCREASED WORKLOAD for current staff, professors, and part-time positions
  • REMOVED ACCESS to physical spaces on campus that were advertised to students
  • INCREASED PRICES for on-campus services, materials, and food products
  • REMOVED OPTIONS for healthy alternatives to the one functioning Tim Hortons left on campus

A restructuring is not only necessary but overdue to address these systemic shortcomings. According to some recent surveys, over 70% of the student body feels that their concerns are not taken seriously. Reports also highlight that over 50% of students struggle with their mental health, not helped by the same systems that regularly shut down access during periods of heightened use, such as during enrollment.

There is a pressing need to restructure how decisions are made at Sheridan College to foster an environment where students feel heard, supported, and valued. Enacting these changes will not only improve student satisfaction but also enhance the institution's reputation and educational effectiveness.

Join us in urging the Sheridan College administration to take immediate action to restructure its governance, placing students' needs at the forefront. Please sign this petition and make a difference in our collective future.
