Restructure Social Media for Child Safety

Restructure Social Media for Child Safety
The Issue
Growing up with siblings, I’ve seen how captivating social media can be. Its influence is undeniable—it inspires and connects. But most platforms fail to manage content responsibly, exposing children to explicit material, violence, and extremism that have no place in a child’s world.
Recent efforts to protect children through ID-based age checks raise serious privacy concerns. Requiring official identification risks sensitive data falling into the wrong hands, and AI-based age “guessing” methods are inaccurate, biased, and intrusive. Parents must also take responsibility for their children’s online activity, but the core issue lies in the platforms themselves.
If a platform is meant for children, it must be structured with their safety at its foundation—similar to Lego Life, which puts child protection first. Social media companies must rethink their designs, stop prioritizing engagement over well-being, and take responsibility for the role they play in shaping young minds.
Sign this petition to demand action and push for safer, better-structured social media for the next generation.
