Restrict the Consumption of Dogs and Cats in Vietnam

Restrict the Consumption of Dogs and Cats in Vietnam
The Issue
From a personal aspect, I would like to say that dogs have done so much for me. They brought so much love and joy into my life, and I would not be the same without them. I know this is true for a lot of people as well; dogs have brought so much love into our lives, and we will never be able to love them as much as they do us.
But by restricting the number of dogs and cats being consumed each year, we can make a difference. A staggering number equivalent to 1/3 of all 900 million dogs are eaten each year globally. This practice not only affects animal welfare but also poses public health risks due to potential disease transmission.
Vietnam is one of the most well known consumers of dogs and cats. We can take action now and convince their government to restrict the consumption.
Dogs, as our beloved companions, deserve to have their rights recognized and protected in Vietnam. According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), "dogs are considered property" and "do not have the same rights as humans". This perspective is completely outdated and ignores the emotional and psychological bonds that exist between humans and dogs. A study found that dog owners experience physical and mental health benefits, including reduced stress and anxiety, increased social connections, and even improved heart health. Many dogs are even trained as service animals, assisting individuals with disabilities and providing lots of support. It is clear that dogs play a vital role in our lives and should be granted certain rights, such as the right to basic care and protection. By recognizing dogs' rights, we can work towards a more compassionate and inclusive society where we will never walk the streets of dog consumption ever again.
Please join me in urging the Vietnamese Government to take action against this practice by implementing stricter regulations on the consumption of dogs and cats. Your signature can help bring about meaningful change for these beloved animals. Sign this petition today!
