Restrict San Geronimo Valley Road to Non-motorized Usage Only (Until Further Notice)
The Issue
Last year around this time, a car accident left two high school students critically injured right here on San Geronimo Valley Road. Just a couple of days ago, tragedy struck again, claiming the lives of four of our young ones, sophomore girls, in another horrific car collision. The victims were all on their way home, on the same road we have known, loved, and even feared, because of its reputation for danger.
It's no secret to anyone who lives here that San Geronimo Valley Road sees a lot of non-automotive traffic -- horse riders, cyclists, joggers. In its essence, it's a road meant for serene appreciation, not the repeated and devastating scene of crushing car crashes. We are grieving now, and we can't afford to see a third, a fourth, or any number of accidents happening again due to fast, uncontrollable cars.
This road is also not a crucial transport artery, so closing it to cars will not significantly disrupt local traffic patterns, while transforming it from a dangerous road to a safe space for non-motorized transport and leisurely walks.
Could we not turn tragedy into an opportunity for change? A chance to convert this hazardous strip of asphalt into a safe avenue for non-motorized users only?
Let us work together to clear the road of cars before another life is forever altered or even claimed. We urge you to support the proposal to restrict access of San Geronimo Valley Road to cars and leave it open only to horses, bikers, walkers, and joggers. This is our chance to restore safety and serenity to our community. Sign this petition now, and let your voice be heard. Be a part of the solution and let us show that we value life over convenience.
Our hearts are with the families and friends of Olive Koren, Josalynn Osborn, Sienna Katz, and Ada Kepley, whose lives were tragically cut short. We also hold in our thoughts Elsa Laremont Stranczek and Marley Barclay as they fight to recover. May the community find strength and solace in coming together during this time of immense grief.
