I am, like many others, a deeply concerned citizen, distressed by the excessive issuance of U.K. work permits without proper verification of the individual's intent to work. This flaw in our immigration system allows people with no genuine work intentions to enter our country and live here, leveraging the work permit scheme as an easy route to obtain U.K. visas.

The impact this issue has on our community is significant, creating an imbalance in our society, straining public services, and causing distress to British nationals. It further raises questions about the integrity of our immigration system, as it seems to assist individuals who are potentially exploiting loopholes.

According to the Office for National Statistics, in 2019, the U.K. granted over 189,000 work-related visas - a number that has gradually been on the increase from 2015.(Office for National Statistics, 2019). We strongly support legal migration and appreciate the immense contributions of immigrants to the U.K. economy. However, it is essential that these permits are granted transparently, with a clear commitment to work.

As concerned U.K. citizens, we call on the government to review and tighten the procedures for awarding work permits, instituting strict checks to ensure that only those genuinely intending to work get permits. It's time we stand up against the fraudulent usage of the system to protect the welfare of our society and our immigration integrity.
