Restrict Non-Resident Deer Hunting on Indiana Public Land During Firearm Season

Restrict Non-Resident Deer Hunting on Indiana Public Land During Firearm Season
The Issue
As a resident of Indiana, I have seen firsthand the impact non-resident hunters have on our public lands, particularly during the first four days of firearm season. These individuals often leave trash behind, take irresponsible shots, and monopolize the game. This not only disrupts local hunting practices but also contributes to environmental degradation.
Our public lands are meant for everyone's enjoyment and preservation. However, with an influx of non-residents during deer hunting season, locals who contribute to these areas through their taxes are left with limited space to hunt. This is not just about preserving a tradition; it's about maintaining respect for our environment and ensuring fair access for all.
In addition to restricting non-resident deer hunting during the initial days of firearm season, we propose an increase in non-resident deer hunting tags to $400. This could serve as a deterrent while also generating additional revenue that could be used towards conservation efforts.
According to data from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), there has been a steady increase in out-of-state hunters over recent years which correlates with these concerns raised by local residents.
Let us stand together as proud Hoosiers and protect our right to enjoy our public lands responsibly and respectfully. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers in Indiana to restrict non-resident deer hunting on public land during firearm season's first four days and increase tag prices for out-of-state hunters.
