Restrict Forward-Facing Sonar(FFS) in Murray Cod Rivers and Create Scope-Free Trial Lakes
Restrict Forward-Facing Sonar(FFS) in Murray Cod Rivers and Create Scope-Free Trial Lakes
The issue
Policy One: the complete ban of all FFS in naturally recruiting rivers. This would include the Murray, Murrumbidgee and Edward rivers, among others. These river systems are highly dependent on large fish maintaining the population. FFS allows anglers to specifically target, follow and pressure these fish. FFS has the potential to cause extreme destruction of these fish stocks and populations. A complete case for these risks is outlined below in the Policy One Justification section.
Policy Two: the creation of FFS free lakes and dams. Currently every lake and dam has the ability for anglers to use FFS. Our goal is to create regulations that completely ban FFS in a specific and limited number of waterways. The full impact of this technology on the fisheries has not yet been made clear. By creating some FFS free waterways, we can create the ability to monitor differences in the effects onto the fish.
