Growing up, I was shielded from the harsh realities of World War II. I believe that the innocence of childhood should be preserved, and certain disturbing aspects of history should be introduced at a more appropriate age. The Great Patriotic War Museum in Russia, which so graphically and boldly tells the history of World War II, should respect this perspective. This is why I urge the museum to restrict entry to those who are 18 and older. It is estimated that 26.6 million Russians perished in the Great Patriotic War, a chilling figure that paints a picture of the dreadful scale of the event (Source: Russian Ministry of Defense, 2020). For some, such information may be a lot to process, especially for children. Many experiences are graphic for young age groups and it is vital that we take steps to ensure that sensitive content is catered to those able to grasp its gravity.
