I am an average citizen of NSW, working shifts and heavily reliant on my car for travel. The situation on our roads is a serious concern, specifically regarding E-scooters.The traffic in Sydney is already complex and risky, and the growing presence of E-scooters on our main roads adds another layer of hazard.

E-scooter riders, often not easily visible, dart in and out of traffic, putting themselves and other road users in danger. Although designated bike lanes exist, they are not legally required to use them. If no bike lane is available, E-scooter riders should be compelled to use footpaths, provided pedestrians' rights are preserved. 

As per a December 2018 report from Victoria's Parliamentary Inquiry into E-bikes, scooters and other forms of personal transport, these vehicles can travel at up to 25km/hour - too fast for footpaths, but too slow for roads, marking a clear gap in our regulatory system (Source: Parliament of Victoria, 2018). I believe we urgently need a change in our transport laws, prioritising safety above all.

I am a car driver, not out of preference, but necessity, due to shift work and the demands of my lifestyle. I am finding myself increasingly frustrated, not just for my well-being, but for the overall security on our roads. Instead of favouring a minority group who utilize E-scooters,it's time the majority of road users' needs and concerns are taken into consideration.

It's time for us - citizens of NSW, car drivers, and responsible road users - to push our agenda for safer highways and a more balanced traffic system. NSW traffic laws should be revised to restrict E-scooters to bike lanes or footpaths, ensuring safe, harmonious and efficient transport for all.
