The Issue

It's personal. I can’t watch 'Hamilton on steroids' anymore, or those endearing hamster feeding videos that always bring a smile to my face. In the Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS), students like me have been stripped of the opportunity to access YouTube during our school day. This decision is stifling creativity, limiting educational resources, and hindering the joy of learning.

YouTube is more than just a platform for entertainment. It's a vast library of educational resources, tutorials, and lectures from professionals worldwide. Many subjects, from history to science, have channels dedicated to creating engaging content that can supplement our traditional learning methods. With YouTube, we have access to a dynamic form of learning that textbooks simply can't provide.

Moreover, in an era where digital literacy is crucial, it's important that we learn to use such platforms responsibly. Instead of outright banning YouTube, KCPS could implement filters and monitoring tools to block inappropriate content. That way, we can enjoy the endless benefits of educational videos while keeping distractions at bay.

Countless schools across the nation have successfully integrated YouTube into their curriculum, empowering students and excelling in digital fluency. Let KCPS follow suit by recognizing the importance of YouTube as an educational tool and restore access so students can thrive academically and socially.

Please sign this petition to bring back YouTube access in KCPS schools for a more enriched and interactive learning environment. Your support can change our educational landscape for the better.
